Back in August of 2007 during my trip to Bangkok after a swing through India I spent one of the afternoons wandering through Bangkok by foot (original day recap). As I look back at it, it's kind of amazing to think back on the trip and my walk that day. Without a map, or any real clue where I was going I simply started walking. Tired of the louts trying to scam, and tuk tuk drivers trying to drop you off at a tailor or brothel I distinctly remember just wanting to walk and photograph.
While looking for wat suthatthepwararam, I ended up walking through a number of different neighborhoods, most of them quite poor. Somehow I ended up at my location and was able to spend an hour or so wandering the temple, watching the locals, and in this case finding an older gentleman escaping the heat of a humid and oppressive Bangkok summer day by catching a nap in the shade.
The journey seems a long time ago, but I can still look back fondly. Maybe my new penchant for simply taking a road to see where it goes can be traced back to this day/trip to Bangkok.
