The beautiful Taj Mahal, in Agra.
After a long flight from Kolkata to New Delhi, and the lovely reminder just how fabulous New Delhi traffic is we spent a nice quiet evening getting some rest. And then bright and early yesterday morning we heading to the New Delhi train station and took a nice 2 hour ride through the Indian countryside to Agra.
It is hot...and humid...but the sky was absolutely beautiful creating a marvelous backdrop for the Taj Mahal. I had forgot just how stunning and impressive the Taj Mahal is. Our tour guide is actually quite informative, and he knows all the "trick" shots of the Taj...how to make it look like you are holding it in your fingertips, how to look like you are holding it in your hand, etc. etc. But he pointed me to a few cool spots.
A marvelous 3-4 hours roaming around the grounds, and then we spent the afternoon over at Agra Fort. Beautiful repetitious lines, and some amazing sandstone architecture.
Another thing we've discovered...apparently I'm a friggen rock star out here. I continuously have people coming up to me asking if they can take my picture, giggling like little school girls. Little kids asking me my name. I asked the tour guide what was going on and he says that I resemble a wrestling star (wrestling is absolutely huge out here, usually on 3-4 channels a day). So, I'm thinking I should get some head shots, autograph them, and pass them out to all my fans.
Today is some additional site seeing in Agra, a train ride back to New Delhi and then a day of shopping tomorrow prior to everyone else going on to their destinations (which for me unfortunately includes having to actually go to work!).
