Today is the Memorial Day, a tribute to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect and defend the United States.

It also is the defacto unofficial start of summer where hundreds of thousands of hearty souls battle traffic and crowds to kick start the summer season. Who knows, maybe 30 years ago this abandoned hotel along the North Shore of the Salton Sea was hopping.

Now? it's a boarded up slice of Americana that once was.
