While traveling along Rt 9 south from Hartford towards the southern coast of Connecticut I saw signs for Gillette Castle in East Haddam. I quickly pulled off and worked my way through the Connecticut countryside. What a surprise, a lovely castle overlooking the Connecticut River. The castle grounds are surrounded by forests and trails, and seeing as it was a cold winter morning I had the trails to myself.
