See 8 minutes 11 seconds for the rundown of chasing sunlight on the sand dunes.

The Death Valley Dunes (also known as the Mesquite Dunes), just south of Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley National Park, are one of 5 sets of dunes in the park. Dunes are formed by loose sediment brought down from the mountains, dried out by the Death Valley sun, and then blown by the desert winds until they eventually end up as part of one of the dune systems. The desert winds constantly reform the dunes providing visitors with a pristine view of the dunes each morning.

This shot was taking right at sunrise, during the 8 minutes of direct sunlight we received that morning.
