Road Trip! It's been awhile, but it's time for another road trip. So, in a few hours I'm quite excited to be heading off for a weekend in the desert...the desert of deserts...Death Valley National Park! A weekend of early morning and late afternoon photography, long hours on the road with the IPOD, beers and cigars on the patio, and eating salami, cheese, and trail mix out of the trunk of my car.

Marcus will be joining me, so it will be nice to have some company on the long drive out there and back. A nice little test to see if he can handle waking up at 4:00 in the morning to catch the sun rise! And as luck would have it the weather appears to be lining up nicely for taking some pictures. Mid 60's in the afternoon and around freezing in the morning, with some cloud coverage...better find the gloves and beanie cap and hope that the passes aren't closed due to snow.

This will be the first trip with the MacBook Pro (and since the blog has been put up)...so if there is an internet connection at the Furnace Creek Ranch I will try and do some on the road blogging and uploading of some photos. Sweet...they have a saloon. So, feel free to check in over the weekend and live vicariously through the idiots waking up at 4am standing in the middle of a pitch black desert in the sub freezing temperatures (wow, when it's laid out like that it doesn't sound all that fun, does it).

And as for the photo, this is from my road trip last December (note to self...maybe try scheduling these road trips in the spring and fall when it's not freezing cold). This is the Coral Pink Sand Dunes in southern Utah. The late afternoon sun is what creates the unique coloring of these dunes. Unfortunately the park allows ATV access to the dunes so it's tough to get a shot without wheel tracks all over the face of the dune. That shouldn't be the case in Death Valley.

Have a great weekend and I hope to have some great shots to start loading up next week.

Cheers

Sean
