In honor of New Orleans and their grand re-opening on Monday Night Football here is a photo...terrible quality but a great memory. A friend and I spent a few days there for his birthday. He had never been so I took him around to all the must do's. French Market, Bourbon Street, cemetaries, jazz clubs. To be honest I really don't know if some of those places still exist.
One morning we sat down in French Market drinking coffee and eating beignets...and then headed over to an outdoor club, drinking Abita, eating fried alligator, and listening to some great jazz. Just an amazing city to spend time in. If you ever get the chance to head off to Jazz Fest, do it. In my mind it shows off the best New Orleans has to offer, even more so than Mardi Gras. Grab some oysters, beer and cajun food and then spend a night in small jazz club and you'll understand the true heart and soul of that city.
I know it's not all the way back, and as a nation we need to take a long hard look at what happened, but I didn't realize just how much I loved that city until they started singing "When the Saints Go Marching In" this evening.
